Individual Life Insurance (Conventional) - Overseas
A contract of three years will be made with successful bidder, which will be renewable with mutual agreement on same terms and conditions. The reinsurer will remain liable to reinsure all the underwritten policies inforce at the termination date until their natural expiration unless the parties decide otherwise with a mutual agreement. Example: SLIC underwrites a 20 years policy of Mr. Ali on 24.09.2026 and get it re-insured from XYZ re-insurers with whom agreement signed on 30.03.2026. The re-insurance arrangement of MR. Ali will continue with XYZ re-insurers up to the end of policy term of Mr. Ali i.e. up to 23.09.2046.
SLIC has been using treaty reinsurance services for its UAE business. An overview of the existing reinsurance arrangements are as follows:
Individual Life (Surplus Treaty)
AED 150,000 (for policies written in AED currency)
Multiple riders such as Family Income Benefit (FIB), TIR, Accidental Death Benefit (ADB), Accidental Indemnity Benefit (AIB) etc. are also reinsured
Individual Life Business
Business written in the books of SLIC follows Underwriting guidelines that covers many characteristics of policyholders to assess potential risks involved. The guidelines majorly evaluate Moral, Medical and Financial aspects of the policy. Over the period of time SLIC has introduced numerous products to cater the needs of policyholders. At present, the portfolio of UAE Business majorly comprises of conventional policies with Endowment products constituting over 96% of the business. Other prevalent products are Whole Life and Anticipated Endowment Plan. The endowment products are offered in many variations which include joint life endowments, child education and single premium plans. Plans are offered in AED and USD Currencies. The total inforce face amount in 2025 for the UAE Business in respective currencies written areAED550 million and USD71 million with an expected addition of AED 85 million and USD 10 million in the form of new policies for 2027 onwards. A brief description of the types of products sold in the name of Individual Life is attached as “Annexure 2-A”.
In addition to these products there are supplementary riders[1] that can be attached to individual life policies at the discretion of the insured. A brief description of SLIC major products and Supplementary Riders is provided in “Annexure2-B”
REINSURANCE SERVICES REQUIRED
SLIC is seeking for reinsurance services for its Individual life products and supplementary Riders written in UAE. SLIC intends to refresh its reinsurance portfolio in line with its existing reinsurance arrangements in a way that there is not much change in the overall risk profile of SLIC and the proportion of business ceded. However, SLIC is open to improvements in the maximum coverages. All products and riders given in section 2 needs to be covered.

Following is the guidance for Dispute Resolution
Notwithstanding any reference to the arbitration herein, the parties shall continue to perform their respective obligations under the Contract unless they otherwise agree that the Authority shall pay the Bidder any monies due to the Bidder.
Arbitrator’s fee:
The fee shall be specified in Pak Rupees, as determined by the Arbitrator, which shall be shared equally by both parties.
Appointing Authority for Arbitrator:
By the Mutual Consent or in accordance with the provisions of Arbitration Act, 1940, in case the parties fail to reach a consensus on the name of sole arbitrator, any party may submit an application to the Chief Justice Islamabad High Court for appointment of sole arbitrator. The Chief Justice IHC may appoint a former judge of any High Court or Supreme Court as the sole arbitrator to resolve the dispute between the parties.
Rules of procedure for arbitration proceedings:
Any dispute between the Authority and a Bidder who is a national of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan arising in connection with the present Contract shall be referred to adjudication or arbitration in accordance with the laws of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan including Arbitration Act 1940, however above provision shall prevail in referring the case to the Arbitrator.
Place of Arbitration and Award:
The arbitration shall be conducted in English language and place of arbitration shall be at Islamabad. The award of the arbitrator shall be final and shall be binding on the parties.
